Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests indicate the substance was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the incident," they commented.
City officials said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the public for information.
A high-ranking official said the vandalism made him speechless and required to be resolved promptly.
"This act affects the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
